Employability Skills

In March 2007, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) published a report which concluded that ‘employability’ comprised a mix of attributes, skills and knowledge which people needed to be effective at work.

The CBI’s seven point model emphasised the importance of seven core employability skills:  Literacy & communication, Numeracy, IT, Self management, Team work, Problem solving, and Business & Customer Awareness.

Worktree focuses on developing the five employability skills which are important to employers and not accredited in the school curriculum, as illustrated above.  We call these skills the ‘STEPS’ which must be practised before entering work and we deliver a series of Employability Now workshops to help young people develop them.
