Ali Khan and Imogen Carpenter from Mirus IT Solutions attended their first Career WorkOut session at Hazeley Academy earlier this week.

Ali is a Business Development Executive and has been with Mirus IT Solutions for 2 years.

“I got involved because my Manager attended a session recently and I thought it would be worthwhile.  It wasn’t that long ago that I left School”.

“Taking part in this activity made me feel good about the work I do as it involves having confidence.  If I can help to build the students confidence up then that’s a good thing”.

“Its interesting to see what young people think about work and their attitude towards it.  It helps them prepare for work life, something which we didn’t have!”

Imogen Carpenter is a Procurement Specialist and has been there for 2 years.

“Two colleagues went to a Career WorkOut session and said how fun and rewarding it was. We were recommended to go and represent Mirus at Hazeley Academy to speak about our jobs and how we got into our careers. I started as an Apprentice at Mirus and not many students know about Apprenticeships, so it was nice to speak to the Year 7s about how to start a job in a field that you love without going to University”.

“The activity was an eye opener on how young people do not know much about Apprenticeships.  A few young people seemed to have been inspired to learn more about doing an Apprenticeship in the future to get into their job role quicker and earn whilst they learn. When I returned to work, I spoke to my colleagues and recommended them to get involved with Worktree because it is rewarding (It is also nice to get out of work for an hour to speak about your job!) It was very refreshing to get involved and inspire young people”.

“My colleagues and other individuals should do this because everyone comes from a different background and have worked in different workplaces to find their suitable job. It is interesting to see the different attitudes towards work from students and what they want to do in the future. It is nice to help guide them along the way.”
