Louise Owen, co-owner of BOBcat Digital Ltd, has been volunteering recently in Career WorkOut sessions.
“The young people that I have met through Worktree have all been articulate, respectful and eager to listen to what I have to say. As you would expect, some are louder and more confident, some funny and others so intelligent that I’ve been taken aback by the clarity of their questions.
“My overriding view is that every young person wants to do the best they possibly can and this makes me feel pretty inspired for the future.
“The events appear to have the power of transporting me back to my school days and the pressure I felt to clearly map out the next 30 years of my life. I found this period of time quite difficult as my sole ambition was to be independent and buy my own house. I had no other plans apart from that.
“The past 35 years have taught me that everyone’s idea of success is personal to them and that ambition will map out their career journey. I certainly didn’t take a straight path but every job I’ve had has taught me something different. If there is one phrase I would share with every young person it would be “it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish” – never a truer word spoken!”
