MK Council Helps Lord Grey Students WorkOut Work Futures
24 Year 10 students from Lord Grey School interviewed 16 MK Council workers in a one-hour ‘WorkOut’ session organised by MK employabillity charity, Worktree.
The annual event, which has been hosted by MK Council for over ten years, achieved some remarkable results. According to questionnaires completed before and after the event, students experienced a 36% increase in ‘talking to adults I do not know’ and a 21% increase in ‘I feel confident I will do well in paid work’.
The event formed part of a two-day employability training experience intended to boost students’ employability skills and self-confidence before the students embark on two-week work experience placements with MK employers.
“What I liked about this is that you have helped me but not only me – the whole group,” said one student. “This has really helped as I was not confident.”
Another said: “I have really enjoyed building up my confidence and not being shy.”
“The employability training has been brilliant for the our students,” said an accompanying teacher from Lord Grey School. “It has been amazing to see their confidence grow in such a short space of time.”
