13 sixth form students from Ousedale School met and interviewed nine staff from Dentons solicitors and four staff from the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP), one of their clients, as part of a ‘Get That Job!’ employability training day hosted by Dentons.
In written feedback at the end of the day, all 13 of the students said they enjoyed it (77% strongly agreed), it helped them understand the job application and interview process (70% strongly agreed) and it helped them develop their personal employability skills (46% strongly agreed). Student Max Barnes said the most enjoyable part was “having a 1-to-1 with 8 different people in various roles.”
The following day in school, teacher Ms Tierney, Sixth Form Co-ordinator, heard one of the pupils say: “Yesterday was the best trip I’ve ever been on” and another say “I loved it, hope we can go again”.
Neil Davis, Leasehold Property Manager at DWP, wrote: “It was a very enjoyable day, some great questions especially ‘how much do you earn’! The students were a credit to themselves, the school and their teachers. My colleagues and I wish them all well in the next stage of the journey through into employment.”
