Take time out to interact with students – James Mansfield-Sturgess, MK City Council

“I have been an ICT Business Solutions Manager since July 2020, have worked in Local Government for most of my career, and wanted to share my experience with young people,” said James Mansfield-Sturgess. “Worktree made it easy.”

“Computer applications are at the heart of Milton Keynes City Council’s service transformation to deliver ‘more for less’ as budgets become tighter. There are so many opportunities in an IT career in Local Government – including support, networking, telephony, digital development, and project management to name a few. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to tell people how diverse and exciting this can be.

“All of the young people who took part in the session I did engaged in such a positive way, asking relevant questions and showing a real interest in the answers from all the volunteers. It felt good to be able to help students in their thinking about possible careers.

“Sometimes it is very easy to allow the day job to become ‘all consuming’. Taking the time out to interact with students, to hear their thoughts, and to answer their questions was very rewarding.”
