“This made me value my job decisions” – Vicci & Michael – John Lewis
Vicci (Catering Assistant) and Michal (Chef) of John Lewis attended their first Career WorkOut at St Paul’s Catholic School this month. They were encouraged by their line Manager, Laura Batchelor (Catering Section Manager) to take part. Vicci and Michal were involved in answering questions from small groups of students about their job, place of work, career journey and skills they need in their jobs. Read on to find out more about Vicci’s experience.
“I am a Catering Assistant for John Lewis. I have been here for 6.5 years”.
“Taking part in Career WorkOut made me realise that there is still a lot of pressure on young people to have their future mapped out. It was apparent that some of them are ready to make decisions relating to their future career paths and others are not there yet. It really showed me that things have changed since I was at School. There are a lot of tools to benefit a whole variety of choices for these young people”.
“I would recommend others to do this activity because everyone’s experience is different. One pupil may just see the value in your experiences. It also made me value the decisions I have made to do a job that I enjoy every day. The working world can be very daunting and to be able to help just one pupil realise that it’s ok no matter what their decisions are now, is worthwhile to me”.
