2022 marks the 30th year of Worktree, MK’s employability education charity. Since 1992, Worktree has delivered a massive 250,000 employer encounters for school students in MK, including 50,000 work experience placements and 25,000 ‘Career WorkOut’ experiences, involving 5,000 volunteers (some pictured above) from 500 local companies, thanks to the efforts of 50 staff members and 25 trustees.
See story of Anna, who experienced Worktree as a child and now works for the charity.
From the registration of COUNTEC as a company in 1992 as a joint venture between Buckinghamshire County Council (COUN) and the Training & Enterprise Council (TEC), through the registration as a charity and start-up of Citischool ‘school without walls’ for excluded 14-16 year olds in 2002, to the re-naming as Worktree in 2012, the charitable company has become a well-known feature of careers and employability education locally and recognised for its innovation nationally.
To celebrate its long history, and the thousands of employee volunteers who have made its work with school students possible, Worktree is holding a 30th birthday celebration on 24th November 2022 5.30-7pm.
